Movies, movies, movies

In the Bedroom is an interesting story about a young boy involved with an older woman. The film stars, Sissy Specek, Marisa Tormei and Tom Wilkinson. Getting involved with anyone that has an ex that is still a part of their lives is risky. You just can't trust anyone and matters of the heart make things worse. This film has some surprises and is definitely worth a look.

Cat's Meow is another interesting film based on an incident that took place in 1924. I didn't think this film would be as interesting and I never purchased it. The film stars, Kirsten Dunst, Cary Elwes, Jennifer Tilly and many others. The costumes are great and everyone gives great performances.

The Pam Grier DVD festival continues, so get yourself a Pam Grier film, any film and join me in honoring this goddess of film.

Crash

I wonder how many of us crash on purpose? (This film is not to be confused with the David Cronenberg film about car crashes.) In the opening lines of the film Crash, one of the films stars states that some people just need to be touched. So there is a chance that some accidents are planned. It has always been my philosphy that when a crime is committed it is because of something we have done to someone. We may not know the person directly, but we have met. Our paths have crossed and it causes us to crash. This film is powerful. It's visual and it has a lot to say. There are many people that are confused. They are not able to convey what they feel. There are many people that don't know where their anger stems from and in the right moment we can forget our hatred as long as we are alone. When we are alone, we can step out of the box we have created. We can be whomever we want to be. We can be caring, we can show affection. Even if it is someone we thought we never wanted to show affection to. We are all dealt cards in life. The key is how we play them. Some of us play to win and others just play the game. Those that play cause a riff, that can be detrimental to many people and they don't even know it. Of course that could be the design of our lives. Check the film out when you get a chance. The stars that are attached to this film include many of my favorites. Oscar nominee Don Cheadle, rap star Ludacris, I must say Ludacris' acting continues to improve with each role he does. Larenz Tate, Brendan Fraser who I was friends with at one point many years ago. Hey we crashed, what can I say. Jennifer Esposito, Beverly Todd, Terrence Howard, Thandie Newton, Matt Dillon, Ryan Phillippe and Sandra Bullock. Thanks for stopping by. Keep an open mind.

Catchin' up with the D

This weeks films, if you'd like to follow along: In the Bedroom, Cat's Meow, I'm about to watch the 3rd Seaso of Oz, And I'll begin the Pam Grier DVD festival, beginning with my all time favorite, Coffy, and then followed by Foxy Brown, 3 A.M., Fort Apache the Bronx, where she gave her most acclaimed role starring with Paul Newman and Ed Asner and Above the Law with Steven Segal.

Sometimes I wonder, when I don't find a film to be so great, is there something wrong with me? Recently I watched Clockwork Orange. I've not seen this film in years. It's one of my favorite Kubrick films. It's based on the book by Anthony Burgess. The film and the book have a language all its own. Talk about ebonics. Kubrick was a genious who loved technology and gadgets. Seems we had something in common. But according to the book Eyes wide open, Kubrick was not fond of Lolita and I think the dialogue in Lolita is the best of all of his films outside of Clockwork Orange, followed by Full Metal Jacket. Kubrick loved sex, though was not a man who engaged in much of it. It shows in his art. Something else we have in common. If you have never seen Clockwork Orange it is definitely worth a look. This cult classic is brutal and makes a heavy statement. Sometimes curing a person of something can make them self destructive to themselves. It changes their views on everything. The soundtrack adds to the intensity of the film.

Another film I watched recently was Project X. I was lucky enough to find this film at Borders while I was in Hawaii. It was a steal and a must have for my collection. It's one of those films that had an impact on me. It stars Mathew Broderick and Helen Hunt. She was a film actress before going to TV. The film is about monkey's being used for government flight simulation and radiation effects. This actually goes on and this film was based on a true story. Although Mathew is good on screen, it's the chimpanzees that steal the movie. This is definitely a film to give a look see and the family can watch it, but there are a few disturbing films. Hey, if you had to explain Bambi to your kids, then why not this one? Thanks for stopping by, keep an open mind.

Kaena, The Prophecy

Animation continues to change the way we look at films. The film Kaena, The Prophecy is an interesting tale of courage and belief. The characters are not as visually appealing as those in Final Fantasy, The Spirits within, but Kaena is a babe. She's sort of reminds me of Halle Berry. The visuals in the film are quite spectacular and the aliens appear to be inspired by the works of Geist. If you're looking for something different, give it a look see. I've now begun the second season of Oz. It still holds my interest and probably always will. My movie list, Summer of Sam, The Players Club, and Project X. I'm working on my celebrity photos to post. Thanks for stopping by, keep an open mind.

A Place in the Sun with Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor, Kaena, an animated film. I will review it as soon as I watch it. Ice Man with Timothy Hutton, Project X with Mathew Broderick. The remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Underworld. I will list the upcoming films I will be viewing tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay

It's been a while, I know. If you've been reading the main journal then you'll know why. The first annual D & D DVD film festival was held in Kailua - Kona, Hawaii. Like most festivals the first one is sometimes hard to organize and keep a schedule going. Something comes up or changes are being made, but that's life. The films screened were An Ordinary Decent Criminal, with Kevin Spacey and Collin Ferrell. Redemption with a bunch of guys I've never heard of. It was based on a true story. The story was a good concept, but the film itself fell short. The acting was mediocre. Up the creek without a paddle was a hoot. Seth Green is so cool, but he is so short. Check him out in Party Monster, excellent performance, one of his best. Boondock Saints was another good film. I like Willem Defoe, the man has some incredible energy that just leaps off the screen. I shyed away from this film, but it was not what I expeceted. I did have some issues with the religious nature of the film, but I must now add it to my collection. Miss Congeniality 2 was another fun flick which took us to one of the local stadium seating movie houses. The film stars Sandra Bullock and Regina King as FBI agents trying to save a kidnapped beauty queen. Lots of laughs, I highly recommend it. Ray with Jaimie Foxx was a good relaxing film, lots of foot tapping. No celebrities showed up and there were no interviews, just lots of talking after the films between the two D's. I'd say it went quite well. Next year the festival is to be held in New Orleans. I'm counting on that.
